Iran Fires Missile Barrages at Northern Israel; All Intercepted

Sirens sounded across northern Israel on the evening of Sunday, June 7, after Iran violated the ceasefire and fired three missile barrages — ten missiles in all — toward the Jewish state. The IDF said every missile was intercepted. Magen David Adom teams treated two people hurt while hurrying to shelter.

The launches came after an Israeli strike on Hezbollah targets in Beirut’s Dahieh district and a wave of threats from senior Iranian figures. In response, the Home Front Command tightened guidelines nationwide, shifting the country to a stricter posture, and Education Minister Yoav Kisch announced that classes and matriculation exams would be suspended across Israel the following day, with all schools closed.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened a limited security consultation with Defense Minister Israel Katz and senior defense officials, while the US military released footage of a significant deployment across the Middle East and said its forces in the region remained alert and ready. A senior Israeli security official said Israel was taking Iran’s threats seriously while judging the likelihood of an immediate large-scale attack to be low. “We are prepared for every scenario,” the official said. “Our assessment is that it will not, but if it does, it will face a powerful response.”
