Trump Urges Netanyahu to Hold Fire, Return to Iran Talks

US President Donald Trump publicly urged Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to refrain from striking Iran in retaliation for the recent Iranian missile attack, in comments on Sunday, June 7. Trump said Israel “has responded enough, no need for more,” adding, “We can achieve peace after 3,000 years.” The appeal came as Israel weighed how and when to answer Iran’s ceasefire breach.

Trump said the United States was “very close to a final deal with Iran” and did not want negotiations to collapse over the latest exchange. He claimed Iran’s strikes on Israel “didn’t hurt anybody” and voiced hope that Israel would not retaliate. “If Netanyahu strikes them back, it’s just gonna keep going like the last 47 years, or last 3,000 years,” he said.

Earlier, Trump urged Tehran to return to the negotiating table. “What I would suggest to Iran: You’ve shot your missiles, that’s enough. Get back to the table and make a deal,” he said. He also said he had been unaware of the strikes on Lebanon, contrary to earlier accounts, and expressed anger over them.
