VFI News Hezbollah Tests the Truce as Israel Holds Firm in the North

Hezbollah Escalates, Trump Halts Beirut Strike — War Update | VFI News

Hezbollah's "ceasefire" is over — rockets are hitting Galilee communities again, and the IDF was minutes from striking Beirut before Trump personally intervened. Here's everything that happened this week.

This week's VFI News report covers one of the most turbulent seven-day stretches since the April 8th ceasefire — and that "ceasefire" is now effectively dead.

Here's what we cover in this report:

— The collapse of the northern ceasefire and renewed Hezbollah attacks on Galilee communities

— Why the IDF was seconds from striking Beirut's Dahiyeh neighbourhood — and who stopped it

— The Trump–Netanyahu phone call: what was said, and what it reveals about Israel's geopolitical isolation

— Iran's refusal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and the third exchange of fire with US forces in the Persian Gulf

— The leaked resignation letter from Iranian President Pezeshkian — and what it tells us about who's really running Iran

— Intelligence reports showing Iran has cleared rubble from its bombed underground missile cities

— The moral confusion spreading across Western democracies — and what Scripture says about it

We record every Tuesday morning Israel time, so some details may shift by the time you watch — but this is the clearest picture we have right now.

If this report helped you understand what's happening, please share it with someone who needs context, not just headlines.

🙏 Pray for Israel. Pray for truth.

Hezbollah Launches Twice in Hours as Israel Weighs Striking Beirut

Hezbollah launched projectiles toward Israeli territory twice within hours on Wednesday, June 3, with both rounds crossing from Lebanon and both intercepted by the Israeli Air Force. After a full day of quiet, sirens sounded in the morning around the community of Manara and inside Kiryat Shmona, where the Air Force downed an unmanned aerial vehicle launched by the terrorist organization. Several hours later, fresh sirens were activated in the area of Misgav Am.

The Air Force acted again and intercepted two projectiles that crossed from Lebanon into Israel. The renewed launches came after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu halted a planned Israeli strike in Beirut at the request of U.S. President Donald Trump. Netanyahu nonetheless made Israel’s position unequivocally clear this week, warning that if Hezbollah does not stop attacking Israeli cities and civilians, Israel will strike terrorist targets in Beirut.

Trump pointed to the diplomatic effort and said he had held a very good conversation with Netanyahu, adding that no soldiers would be going to Beirut. He also described a conversation with Hezbollah in which, he said, the group agreed that all firing would stop, that Israel would not attack them, and that they would not attack Israel. The latest interceptions leave that understanding in serious doubt, and Israel has signaled it is prepared to act against the heart of Hezbollah’s stronghold should the attacks persist.

Dear Lord, we lift up the communities of the north — Manara, Kiryat Shmona, Misgav Am and all the Galilee — living once more under siren and fire. We thank You for every interception, and we ask You to keep watch over those who guard the border, sharpening their vigilance and steadying their hands. Frustrate the schemes of Hezbollah and bring its terror to nothing, and grant Israel’s leaders wisdom and resolve in every decision they face. We pray that this land would dwell in true and lasting safety, in Yeshua’s Name.

On Israel’s Northern Border, Families Hold the Line in the ‘Ceasefire War’

Residents of Israel’s northern border describe living through what they call “the ceasefire war,” with sirens and explosions continuing despite repeated truce announcements. At Kibbutz Manara, members of the community’s rapid response unit move out to answer Hezbollah rocket fire even as agreements are proclaimed in distant capitals. For the families who have chosen to stay, the gap between a declared ceasefire and the reality on the ground has become a daily test of resolve.

One resident, Bar-Dan, captured the frustration plainly, saying a ceasefire is supposed to be on both sides and not a situation in which Hezbollah keeps shooting while Israelis simply absorb it. In December 2024, during the war, she and her husband had fled Manara with their three children and were living out of a single hotel room, unsure whether they would ever return home. Today roughly 200 of the kibbutz’s 280 residents have come back, though many families, including her own, still cannot live in their original houses because of war damage.

After Hezbollah entered the recent war in support of Iran, Washington launched a diplomatic effort aimed at turning the fragile arrangement into a broader settlement for Lebanon. On the ground, normal life remains elusive, and residents speak less of leaving than of staying put. “This is our home,” Bar-Dan said. “Someone has to live on the borders of this country.” Then another explosion sounded in the distance.

IDF Exposes Hezbollah Hiding in Tyre’s Christian Neighborhood

The IDF revealed on Tuesday, June 2, that Hezbollah operatives have embedded themselves inside the Christian neighborhood of the southern Lebanese city of Tyre after fleeing other areas. Evacuation notices had been issued for several parts of Tyre but deliberately excluded the Christian quarter. IDF Arabic spokesperson Lt.-Col. Ella Waweya said forces had observed activity by dozens of elements affiliated with the terrorist organization operating from within the area.

Waweya noted this was not the first time Hezbollah had been exposed operating from Christian areas, which the group treats as a safer haven, and she urged residents to demand the removal of the terrorists from their neighborhoods for their own safety. She delivered a direct warning to the operatives themselves: they are not safe there, and if they continue to stay and operate from the area, the military will order an evacuation of the Christian neighborhood and take the necessary measures against them. The disclosure followed an acknowledgment that a strike on Hezbollah infrastructure on Monday, June 1, had incidentally damaged a civilian hospital, which was not targeted.

The military emphasized that Hezbollah systematically embeds itself within civilian infrastructure and population centers, having previously positioned itself near medical facilities and endangered patients, staff, and civilians. Givati Brigade troops established positions in Zawtar al-Sharqiya and Zawtar al-Gharbiyah north of the Litani River, where forces killed more than 20 terrorists and conducted 100 strikes. The operations were carried out to remove the direct threat to Israeli communities in the Galilee panhandle and in Metula and to tighten the pressure on Hezbollah across Lebanon, from the southern suburbs of Beirut to Tyre.

Our Father, we thank You that the truth is being brought to light, exposing how Hezbollah hides among the innocent and shields itself behind hospitals and homes. We ask You to protect Israel’s soldiers as they operate in difficult and dangerous terrain, and to guard the lives of civilians caught between the terrorists and the battlefield. Soften the hearts of those who dwell under Hezbollah’s shadow, and grant them courage to reject it. May the threat to the communities of the Galilee be removed, and may Your justice prevail, in Yeshua’s Name.

Slovenia Turns Away Israeli Passenger Jet, Forcing Diversion to Croatia

Slovenian authorities denied an Israeli passenger plane permission to land in the capital, Ljubljana, on Wednesday, June 3, in what was described as a protest against Israeli government policy. The Israir Airlines jet was forced to divert to an airstrip in neighboring Croatia, landing in Zagreb. Israel’s Foreign Ministry denounced the incident as completely unacceptable.

The aircraft reached Ljubljana Airport, but air traffic controllers refused to let it touch down. Israir director Uri Sirkis called the move a blatant violation of European Union aviation agreements, saying Slovenian authorities are refusing to let any Israeli carriers land because they are strongly opposed, politically, to the Israeli government line. Israel’s Foreign Ministry and Civil Aviation Authority worked to resolve the matter without success.

The Foreign Ministry noted that Slovenia is in the process of forming a new government in place of the outgoing, hostile one, and Israel expects a significant improvement in relations between the countries. Transportation Minister Miri Regev called it an invalid political decision that directly impacts Israeli citizens, warning that anyone who tries to boycott Israel through aviation should understand there will be consequences and that Israel will use all tools available to it. Israir operates three weekly scheduled flights to Ljubljana, and no other carrier offers a comparable direct route.

British Airways Extends Israel Flight Suspension Through End of October

British Airways announced earlier this week that it is extending the suspension of flights to most Middle East destinations through the end of the summer schedule, at least until October 25, 2026. The affected routes include Tel Aviv, alongside Dubai, Bahrain, and Amman. The carrier cited regional security uncertainty and the difficulty of reaching a stable arrangement with Iran as reasons for continuing to freeze the routes even during the busiest travel season of the year.

The airline plans to resume service to the Gulf destinations of Doha, Qatar, and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in August. Qatar Airways holds a 25 percent stake in British Airways’ parent company, International Airlines Group, which also owns Iberia, Aer Lingus, and Vueling. Several other major international carriers have likewise extended their cancellations to the region in recent weeks.

Delta Air Lines will not resume its New York–Tel Aviv route before September 6, has suspended the Atlanta route until December 18, and has postponed the launch of a new Boston–Tel Aviv route with no date set. American Airlines extended its cancellations to Tel Aviv and Doha until January 2027, which would leave it absent from the Israeli market for more than three years. Against this wave of retreat there is one notable exception: Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways, currently operating two daily flights to Israel, is expected to expand to as many as six daily flights between Abu Dhabi and Tel Aviv starting June 15.

German Court Calls ‘No Jews Allowed’ Sign Incitement, Then Spares Shop Owner Jail

A court in Germany sentenced a 60-year-old man from Flensburg to a six-month suspended prison term after he hung an antisemitic sign on a store he owns reading, “Jews are not allowed to enter this place!!!” The court also ordered him to pay 1,200 euros, about 1,370 dollars, to the Ladelund concentration camp memorial. The judge found that the man prominently displayed the notice in his secondhand store for roughly four hours on September 17, 2025.

The judge ruled that by displaying the sign the man incited hatred against Jews living in Germany and violated their human dignity, stressing that he was fully aware of the meaning and implications of his words. The sign was deliberately intended to evoke memories of the Nazi boycott slogans directed against Jewish businesses, the judge said, adding that the case did not involve a spontaneous remark or protected opinion but rather incitement to hatred. The defendant admitted hanging the sign and, through his attorney, expressed remorse and pledged to refrain from similar conduct.

During police questioning, however, he said he had decided to post the sign because, in his view, the Jews he knew had not opposed the war in Gaza, later conceding he should have distinguished between Jews holding differing views. The case drew widespread attention well beyond Germany and was covered by outlets around the world. The suspended sentence, paired with the court’s own finding that the act amounted to incitement evoking Nazi-era boycotts, drew sharp notice for the gap between the gravity of the offense and the leniency of the punishment.

Heavenly Father, we grieve to see the antisemetic sign reappear on a shop window in Germany, echoing the darkest chapters of the last century. We ask You to protect Jewish communities across the diaspora, to comfort those who are wounded by such contempt, and to raise up courts and leaders who will name evil for what it is and answer it with true justice. Turn the hearts of those consumed by hatred to repentance, and let the memory of the past guard the conscience of the present. In Yeshua’s Name we pray.

A European Jewish Leader’s Warning: The Oldest Hatred is Crossing the Atlantic

From fortress synagogues to armed guards at schools, a European Jewish leader is warning that America still has time to confront rising antisemitism before it is too late. Rabbi Menachem Margolin, founder and chairman of the European Jewish Association, argues that the people accelerating the hatred are not a fringe in masks but figures who are winning arguments and shaping what counts as acceptable on campuses, in city councils, and in the social media feeds where children form their opinions.

They are teaching a generation, he writes, that some hatreds are sophisticated and forgivable and that the oldest hatred of all is simply one more political position. When antisemitism is excused because it wears the right political colors, when violent extremism is rationalized because confronting it is uncomfortable, and when those in charge offer statements instead of standards, the danger spreads. Every extremist then hears the same message Europe once heard: no one is going to stop you. The warning landed against the backdrop of anti-Israel demonstrators protesting at the Park East Synagogue in Manhattan on May 5.

Margolin frames his message as the early warning his own generation of leaders never received in time, offered while the door is still open and the price of acting is still small. Europe, he writes, has already seen this movie and knows exactly how it ends, while America still has time to write a different story, but not much. His appeal to American readers is direct: do not wait until you need a European’s experience to finally believe the warning.

In a First, a Woman Completes the IDF’s Elite Sayeret Matkal Course

The IDF announced on Thursday, June 4, that for the first time a woman has graduated from the grueling General Staff Reconnaissance Unit course, known as Sayeret Matkal, and will join operational service in the future. The pilot program opening the unit and other elite formations to women began in December 2024, and the soldier endured more than 18 months of training that pushed her to the limit. The military said she met all of the unit’s exceptionally high criteria.

Her exact placement is still to be determined, since Sayeret Matkal contains different divisions and a range of unique roles that shift from one operation to the next. In recent years women had already entered some elite units, but the few found eligible for Sayeret Matkal training had eventually washed out during the demanding 18-month course. With this milestone, the only remaining IDF unit without women is Shayetet 13, Israel’s naval commando force.

The achievement comes at a moment when the military, stretched after years of war and heavy losses since 2023, has described the integration of every soldier who can serve as the command of the moment. Commanders praised the soldier on what they called a significant and groundbreaking accomplishment, and the high command is weighing whether to expand the effort further. Israel’s premier unit for covert land operations behind enemy lines now counts a woman among those who have met its standard.
