The alleged terrorist behind a deadly shooting attack in the northern West Bank town of Huwara was one of six Palestinians killed as Israeli troops raided Jenin and exchanged fire with gunmen Tuesday, February 28. 

Palestinian officials said Abdel Fattah Hussein Kharousha, 49, was killed in the operation. The Shin Bet security agency said Kharousha, a Hamas member from the Askar refugee camp near Nablus, was the terrorist who opened fire on an Israeli car driving through Huwara on February 26, killing Israeli brothers Hallel and Yagel Yaniv. 

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the troops who “eliminated the despicable terrorist who murdered the two brothers in cold blood.” He said this was proof that “whoever harms us, on his own head be it.” 

Palestinian health officials said at least six people were killed in the fighting, and another 12 were injured, three seriously. Others killed were named as Muhammad Wael Ghazawi, 26, Tariq Ziad Mustafa Natour, 27, Ziad Amin Zaraini, 29, Mutasim Nasser Sabbagh, 22, and Muhammad Ahmad Salim Khalouf, 22. 

Palestinian media identified Khalouf, Ghazawi, and Zaraini as members of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, a terror group loosely affiliated with the Palestinian Authority’s ruling Fatah party. Sabbagh and Kharousha were named by Hamas as members and “fighters” in the terror group. The Palestinian Islamic Jihad in a statement said the sixth Palestinian, Natour, was a member.

The Biden administration is concerned that Israel might attack Iran’s nuclear sites without notifying Washington ahead of time, according to military analyst Ron Ben-Yishai. 

In a column he published on Sunday, March 5, Ben-Yishai wrote that the concerns brought the US to send to Israel, at short notice, the two most senior figures in the Pentagon - the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Secretary of Defense.  

The reason for the visits, according to a senior member of Israel's defense establishment who was quoted in Ben-Yishai’s column, is that the White House and the Pentagon fear that the current Israeli government will surprise the United States by striking Iran and dragging Washington into a military conflict in the Middle East, while the United States and its allies are investing most of their resources in the Ukraine war and in the escalation of the "cold" conflict with China. 

The visits of the US officials follow the International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA) discovery of uranium enriched to 84% purity at the underground plant in Fordow.

Women violating the Islamic dress code will be punished, Iran's judiciary chief declared Monday, March 6, reaffirming the law after months of unrest that brought a deadly security crackdown. 

'Removing one's hijab is equivalent to showing enmity to the Islamic Republic and its values. People who engage in such an abnormal act will be punished,' Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei told state-run Islamic media. 

'With the help of the judiciary and executive, authorities will use all available means to deal with the people who cooperate with the enemy and commit this sin that harms public order.' 

The death of Iranian Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini while in police custody for flouting the dress code in September 2022 triggered nationwide protests that posed one of the toughest challenges to Iran’s theocracy since its establishment in 1979.

Iran’s supreme leader said Monday, March 6, that if a series of suspected poisonings at girls’ schools proves to be deliberate, the culprits should be sentenced to death for committing an “unforgivable crime.” 

It was the first time Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei — who has the final say on all matters of state — has spoken publicly about the suspected poisonings, which began late last year and have sickened hundreds of children. 

Iranian officials only acknowledged them in recent weeks, and have provided no details on who may be behind the attacks or what chemicals — if any — have been used. 

Unlike neighboring Afghanistan, Iran has no history of religious extremists targeting women’s education. “If the poisoning of students is proven, those behind this crime should be sentenced to capital punishment and there will be no amnesty for them,” Khamenei said, according to state-run media. 

Authorities have acknowledged suspected attacks at more than 50 schools across 21 of Iran’s 30 provinces since November. At least 400 schoolchildren have fallen ill, but there have been no reported fatalities. 

The children affected by the poisonings have reportedly complained of headaches, heart palpitations, feeling lethargic, or otherwise unable to move. Some described smelling tangerines, chlorine, or cleaning agents. (TOI / VFI News)

Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of the Lebanese terrorist organization, claimed that the controversy in Israel over the government's planned judicial reforms showed that the Jewish State is approaching the end of its existence. 

“Everything that is happening in Israel is among the signs of the end of this entity,” Nasrallah said in a video address Monday, March 6. 

He warned that the efforts of the Otzma Yehudit party to pass a law imposing the death penalty for terrorists would only lead to an increase in terrorist attacks against Israelis. 

“Any time your enemy decides to pass a law to execute prisoners, it means he is a fool," the terrorist leader said. "You foolish Zionists, this law will increase the courage of the Palestinian mujahideen (Islamic warriors) to carry out operations."

In a new video, Arnold Schwarzenegger discussed the rise of anti-Semitism globally, describing the Nazis of his father’s generation as “losers” who were “misled into a path that ended in misery.”

 In the clip, the actor and former governor of California described how his father, a Nazi party member, was a broken man after the war who turned to alcohol to cope. 

He cautioned viewers that “there has never been a successful movement based on hate.” “Think about that: the Nazis? Losers. The Confederacy? Losers. The apartheid movement? Losers. And the list goes on and on” Schwarzenegger said. 

He continued: “it's easier to make excuses that the Jewish people conspired to hold you back than it is to admit that you just needed to work harder. It's easier to hate than it is to learn.”

Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister, Jeyhun Bayramov, is set to visit Israel at the end of March to take part in the inauguration of his country’s embassy in Tel Aviv, Israeli media reported on Monday, March 6. 

Bayramov’s trip is scheduled for March 29 and he will meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Foreign Minister Eli Cohen, and President Isaac Herzog. 

The trip will mark the first visit by an Azerbaijani official to the Jewish state in a decade. It will come after Cohen invited Bayramov in January. 

Last November, the Azerbaijani parliament announced its historic decision to open an embassy in Israel.

If there’s one thing that Israelis know well, it’s dealing with trauma, or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), to be precise. 

Shay Gutman and David Roytman, have founded PTSD treatment centers for soldiers returning from the battlefield, as well as a special seminar in conjunction with Israel’s Menachem Begin Heritage Center, which brought Ukrainian psychologists and social workers to Israel with the goal of teaching them to cope with the new situation on their home front. 

The colleagues got the project off the ground less than two months ago, and they’re already offering help and emotional rehabilitation to soldiers in four cities—in Kyiv, Odessa, Dnipro and Chernivtsi. 

In addition, they also send delegations of psychologists directly to the front or nearby. “The positive feedback we’re getting is tremendous,” Gutman says proudly. “We’ve been to the front lines where the fighting is very heavy and soldiers fight round the clock. They greet us with open arms and beg us to come back.” 

“In the short time since we’ve started out, we’ve already offered great help to many soldiers. A critical part of the job was training the psychologists that we recruited in Ukraine for the task, since most of them lack knowledge and experience in this very delicate realm.” (INN / VFI News)
