Restored Tomb of Prophet Nahum in Iraq Quietly Attracts Jewish Pilgrimage

Despite ongoing tensions, the recently restored tomb of the biblical prophet Nahum in Alqosh, Iraq, is attracting Jewish visitors, including from Israel. Restoration efforts were led by an American preservation group and completed in 2022.

Rabbi Asher Lopatin visited the site in April and prayed at sunrise. He described the moment as deeply spiritual and moving. Organizers say dozens of Jewish pilgrims have quietly visited the site over the past three years.

Adam Tiffen, from the Alliance for the Restoration of Cultural Heritage, stated that visits must be coordinated with local officials due to the site's sensitive location. (TOI/VFI News)

“Heavenly Father, we thank You for the preservation of sacred places that connect us to our faith and heritage. May these restored sites continue to inspire faith, unity, and a deeper reverence for Your Word.”
