As Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu departed Israel for Washington to meet with President Donald Trump, he emphasized that any ceasefire or hostage deal must ensure Hamas no longer holds power in Gaza. "We are determined to ensure that Gaza will no longer constitute a threat to Israel," Netanyahu told reporters on Sunday, July 6, 2025.

"That means one thing: eliminating Hamas's military and governing capabilities. Hamas will not be there," he insisted.

Negotiations continue on a proposed 60-day ceasefire that includes phased hostage releases and humanitarian aid. The deal, according to sources, leaves some terms vague—such as whether a permanent ceasefire is guaranteed—which Hamas objects to. Trump is reportedly seeking a public joint declaration with Netanyahu to commit to the agreement.

Netanyahu also pointed to the recent Israel-Iran conflict as a turning point, suggesting a "historic opportunity" for broader peace in the Middle East. As Prime Minister Netanyahu visits Washington, he and President Trump are expected to discuss Iran's nuclear ambitions. Despite devastating airstrikes by the US and Israel, Iranian officials say uranium enrichment continues. President Trump, speaking aboard Air Force One, said the nuclear program may be permanently crippled but warned that any restart would be met with force. On Saturday, July 5, two American veterans working with the U.S.- and Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) were injured in an attack while distributing aid to Palestinians. The two veterans are reportedly receiving medical treatment and are in stable condition. GHF said the Americans were "highly decorated" veterans.

"GHF has repeatedly warned of credible threats from Hamas, including explicit plans to target American personnel, Palestinian aid workers, and the civilians who rely on our sites for food. Today's attack tragically affirms those warnings," the organization wrote.

GHF vowed that it was still committed to the mission of delivering aid to Gazans even in the face of violent attacks. The organization later posted an image of grenade fragments left over from the attack, showing the weapons were packed with ball bearings. According to GHF, the grenades were found to be of Iranian origin and have been "commonly used by Hamas."

GHF Executive Chairman Rev. Johnnie Moore blamed international media and organizations for legitimizing Hamas, stating their silence and cooperation enabled the violence. U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee condemned the attack, declaring, "With Hamas, no good deed goes unpunished."

The IDF said troops facilitated the safe evacuation of the injured veterans and condemned the continued targeting of humanitarian sites by Hamas. GHF reiterated its previous warnings that Hamas had placed bounties on the heads of its American and Palestinian workers. The IDF launched a major operation early Monday morning, July 7, 2025, striking three Houthi-controlled ports in Yemen—Hodeidah, Ras Issa, and Al-Salif—as well as a power station and the Galaxy Leader ship used for terrorist purposes. Defense Minister Israel Katz stated, "Anyone who raises a hand against Israel will have it cut off."

The Galaxy Leader, hijacked by the Houthis in 2023, had been fitted with radar systems to monitor Red Sea vessels. Israel claims the targeted ports were key transit points for Iranian weapons. The strikes came after Houthis resumed attacks on commercial vessels despite a ceasefire between Israel and Iran.

Ecuadoran President Daniel Noboa said on Thursday, May 8, that his country is receiving intelligence support from Israel and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as it grapples with surging cartel violence linked to cocaine trafficking.

Speaking to French media during a diplomatic tour in Paris, Noboa said both Israel and the UAE had agreed to share intelligence with Quito to curb the deadly influence of drug cartels. “They agreed to provide intelligence to help,” said the 37-year-old leader, who was recently re-elected.

The IDF emphasized a focus on recruiting individuals suited for combat and frontline support roles. Increased enforcement against draft evaders and deserters is also underway. The military pledged to respect Haredi lifestyles while integrating them into service.

Violence erupted during a pro-Palestinian protest in Melbourne, Australia on Friday, July 4. Masked individuals stormed Miznon, a popular Israeli restaurant, throwing objects and smashing windows.
