The Hezbollah terror group has recently raised the frequency of its provocations on Israel's northern border - and one senior IDF source is warning that war with Hezbollah is only a matter of time.

On Wednesday, July 12, a disturbing incident took place on Israel’s northern border with Lebanon near Metulla, as a group of individuals approached the security fence, hurling rocks and igniting a fire in close proximity. Soldiers of the Israel Defense Forces were forced to fire warning shots to disperse the rioters.

Furthermore, a missile fired two weeks ago near Ghajar only barely missed a military vehicle, and a different result would have completely changed the situation in northern Israel.

These incidents follow Hezbollah’s illegal establishment of several tents within the Mount Dov area. The group has also coerced the Lebanese government into asserting additional claims on Israel, demanding the removal of a fence securing the village of Ghajar.

"No one knows when it will happen, but war is a matter of time," a senior commander in northern Israel told an Israeli news outlet. "We are on high alert. If in the past, there were infiltrations of mostly labor-seekers, today there are provocations on the border fence."

The outlet added that outwardly, the IDF is not being dragged into Hezbollah's provocations, but under the surface, the situation is completely different and fully concealed. Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah warned that Hezbollah operatives had been given directives to respond to any attack on the tents the movement set up in Israeli territory over a month ago, during a speech on Wednesday, July 12, marking the anniversary of the start of the 2006 Second Lebanon War.

Last month, it was revealed to the public that Hezbollah had set up two tents in Israeli territory in the Shebaa Farms area, with armed operatives present in the tents. The comments were the first made by the Hezbollah leader concerning the tents since they were erected.

During his speech on Wednesday, Nasrallah stressed that Israel “would not dare” to act against the tents, as Hezbollah would respond to any such action.

"Starting from last year, the enemy raised a fence to annex the northern part of the town of Ghajar, which is Lebanese territory with international recognition, and what happened recently is that it finished building the barrier and turned it into a tourist area amid silence from the United Nations," he said.

Referring to Ghajar, Nasrallah warned that Hezbollah "could not remain silent" and accused Israel of "occupying" the village. "The land of Ghajar, the Sheeba Farms, and the Kfarchouba hills will not be left to the Israelis," stressed Nasrallah. Israel came out swinging at Swedish officials on Friday, July 14, following the decision by Stockholm police to allow the Bible and Torah to be burned during a protest scheduled for last weekend outside the Israeli Embassy.

Jerusalem called on the Swedish government to stop the protests, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, "The sacred books of all religions must be respected. I strongly condemn the decision of the authorities in Sweden to allow the burning of a Bible book in front of the Israeli embassy in the country."

"The State of Israel takes very seriously this shameful decision that damages the Holy of Holies of the Jewish people," he added.

Other top Israeli officials - including Israeli President Isaac Herzog, Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen, former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett - as well as the European Jewish Congress (EJC) and Israel's Chief Rabbi Lau "unequivocally" condemned the permissions granted during the planned protests.

Herzog, said, "As the President of the State of Israel, I condemned the burning of the Quran, sacred to The Muslim world over, and I am now heartbroken that the same fate awaits a Jewish Bible, the eternal book of the Jewish people."

"Permitting the defacement of sacred texts is not an exercise in freedom of expression; it is blatant incitement and an act of pure hate," he added. "The whole world must join together in clearly condemning this repulsive act."

Foreign Minister Eli Cohen on Wednesday, July 12, said Iran was responsible for a foiled plot to attack the Israeli embassy in Azerbaijan.

“Tehran stands behind the attempt,” Cohen said in a statement during an official visit to Serbia. “Iranian terror is a global threat, as we saw in the past few days in Azerbaijan in an attempted attack against the Israeli Embassy in Baku, as well as in recent months in Cyprus and Greece in attempted attacks against Israelis and Jews.”

Cohen added that Iran had funded and issued instructions to the terror cell that attempted the attack. He also called for the international community to come together to oppose Iran’s terror activities.

Azeri security forces arrested the 23-year-old Afghan national on suspicion of planning the attack on the embassy in Baku, the State Security Service announced Monday.

Israel is in the midst of a public expansion of bilateral ties with Azerbaijan, a Shiite-majority country closely allied with Turkey that has seen its partnership with the Jewish state flourish.

Iran will not negotiate over three Gulf islands disputed with the United Arab Emirates, the legal adviser to Iran's president said on Wednesday, July 12, following Tehran's summoning of the Russian ambassador over a statement about the islands.

The islands, Abu Musa and Greater and Lesser Tunb are claimed by the UAE and Tehran but have been held by Iran since 1971, shortly before the seven Gulf emirates gained full independence from Britain and formed the UAE, now allied with Washington.

On Monday, July 10, Russia and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) issued a joint statement in which foreign ministers expressed their support for a UAE initiative to reach a peaceful solution to the issue of the islands through bilateral negotiations or the International Court of Justice.

"Examining all past documents shows that these islands belong to Iran and cannot be disputed," said the Legal Advisor Mohammad Dehghan.

Israeli start-up Electreon is set to install an electric stretch of road that will charge passing electric vehicles in France, following its victory in a public tender. Together with European toll road operator VINCI, Electreon’s Wireless Electric Road System (ERS) will be built into a section of the A10 highway, South West of Paris.

Electreon will install a two-kilometer dynamic wireless charging road and a stationary wireless charging station, which will both support all vehicle types and classes.

The company’s technology can charge electric vehicles while they are moving or stopped, which can help to eliminate range anxiety and reduce the total cost of EV ownership.

“We are honored that Electreon has been selected as the on-the-go wireless charging technology for France’s first ERS deployment,” said Oren Ezer, CEO and co-founder of Electreon.

The initial phase of the project will focus on charging commercial electric fleets while they drive. However, the ultimate goal is to deploy ERS across all major French roadways to decarbonize passenger and freight transport, the heavy-trucking industry, and to support all types of electric vehicles to be able to charge seamlessly while driving on an open highway in France. Israel is allocating NIS 113 million ($31 million) in funds for a new research and development center to boost the nation’s edge in the intersection of biology with other sciences for medical tech purposes.

The Israel Innovation Authority, in charge of the nation’s technology policies, on Wednesday, July 12, announced the tender for the establishment of the center that will provide the R&D infrastructure needed by startups to build biodevices based on biochips.

The tender is part of Israel’s national bio-convergence program. Bio-convergence is a growing industry that integrates biology with additional disciplines from engineering such as electronics, artificial intelligence, physics, computer science, nanotechnology, and advanced genetic engineering, in a bid to meet global health challenges.

Biochips are advanced microdevices that combine biology, engineering, and microtechnology. The miniature chips integrate multiple laboratory functions onto a single platform and are capable of analyzing biological samples, including cells, proteins, or DNA, as well as performing biological reactions such as decoding genes, similar to a computer chip performing a multitude of mathematical tasks.

They are used in fields such as healthcare, diagnostics, and pharmaceutical research for DNA sequencing, drug development, diagnosis and monitoring of biological processes, and more.

The funding will be given to companies and organizations that can provide services in areas including chip manufacturing infrastructure, software tools, analysis equipment, wet labs, and bioprinting infrastructure to support the research, development, prototyping, and validation of biodevices. Israeli surgeons saved a 12-year-old Palestinian boy last month, successfully reattaching his head to his neck in a high-tech advanced procedure after it had been internally decapitated.

The boy, Suleiman Hassan, was airlifted from Judea and Samaria to Hadassah Medical Center in Ein Kerem after he reportedly got hit by a car while riding his bike.

“Due to the serious injury, the head [was] almost completely detached from the base of the neck,” said Dr. Ohad Einav, a specialist with Hadassah Orthopedic Department, according to Jewish media. Einav performed the surgery alongside Dr. Ziv Asa in early June.

“We fought for the boy’s life, a large operating room team, including operating room nurses and anesthesiologists, followed by the intensive care and surgical department team.”

Hassan has since been discharged from the hospital but will remain under observation by hospital staff, Einav said. “The fact that such a child has no neurological deficits or sensory or motor dysfunction and that he is functioning normally and walking without an aid after such a long process is no small thing,” Einav explained, marveling at the boy’s miraculous recovery.

“This is not a common surgery at all, and especially not on children and teens. A surgeon needs knowledge and experience to do this,” Einav said, crediting his training in Toronto for preparing him to operate on Hassan. (FC / VFI News)
