Bethlehem Celebrates Christmas as Gaza Ceasefire Brings Renewed Hope

Bethlehem marked Christmas celebrations with renewed optimism following a ceasefire in Gaza that eased regional tensions. For the first time in years, festive events returned to Manger Square, drawing local residents and pilgrims to the city traditionally recognized as the birthplace of Jesus.

Church leaders said the calmer security situation allowed for public worship and processions that had previously been scaled back. Local businesses, long affected by conflict and declining tourism, welcomed the return of visitors. Residents expressed cautious hope that the ceasefire could signal a longer period of stability.

At the same time, many acknowledged the fragility of the situation and continued to pray for lasting peace. Clergy emphasized that the true message of Christmas—peace on earth and goodwill toward men—remains urgently needed throughout the region.
