Nearly 200 Wounded as Iranian Ballistic Missiles Strike Southern Cities of Dimona and Arad
Israeli air defenses failed to intercept at least two Iranian ballistic missiles on Saturday, March 21, resulting in direct hits on the southern cities of Dimona and Arad that left nearly 200 people wounded, with 11 in serious condition. IDF spokesman Brig.-Gen. Effie Defrin confirmed that interceptors were activated against both projectiles but did not knock them down, calling the munitions familiar rather than a new threat, while pledging a thorough investigation.
A 12-year-old boy was listed in serious condition after suffering shrapnel injuries in Dimona, where the missile’s warhead held hundreds of kilograms of conventional explosives and caused structural damage to residential buildings. In Arad, a 5-year-old girl was left in serious condition after the second strike triggered a mass casualty declaration. Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba treated 175 wounded from both cities, with 36 still hospitalized by Sunday morning. Iranian state media claimed both strikes targeted Israel’s Negev nuclear research facility in retaliation for an alleged attack on the Natanz enrichment site — a claim the IDF denied.
IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir held an emergency session with senior commanders and approved a wave of strikes across all fronts. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited Arad on Sunday morning and told reporters that Iran was targeting civilian neighborhoods “as a mass murder weapon,” saying the absence of fatalities was fortunate rather than intentional. He vowed that Israel would continue striking its enemies on every front and called on world leaders to join Israel and the United States in confronting Iran.

“Dear Lord, our hearts go out to the residents of Dimona and Arad in the wake of these devastating missile strikes. We pray in Yeshua’s Name for Your healing hand upon every wounded person — especially the young children who were injured — and ask that You restore them fully in body and spirit. Strengthen those investigating the defense failures, sharpen Israel’s shield, and guard every city and family across this land. May this conflict be brought to a swift and righteous end, and may Your perfect peace rest over the people of Israel. In Yeshua’s Name we pray.”
