Terrorist Kills One, Wounds Five in Central Israel Shooting Spree

An Arab Israeli terrorist opened fire at several locations across central Israel on Sunday, June 7, killing one person and wounding five before security forces shot him dead. Police later arrested a second man suspected of involvement in the attack.

Magen David Adom treated two men in their 30s shot at a gas station near Kochav Ya’ir, one of them seriously; a 31-year-old man and a 61-year-old woman shot at the entrance to Tzur Yitzhak, both in moderate condition; and two men shot on the road outside Tzur Natan — a man of about 35 who died of his wounds and a man in his 40s left in serious condition. As the attack unfolded, sirens warned residents of Tzur Natan and Tzur Yitzhak of a terrorist infiltration and urged them to barricade themselves indoors.

The three neighboring communities lie north of Tel Aviv near the Judea and Samaria security barrier on the Israeli side. The gunman drove onto the nearby community of Sal’it, fired at its entrance, and fled after the local security chief returned fire, with no injuries there. Israeli forces caught up with him on the outskirts of Tayibe and shot him dead, identifying him as Omar Yassin, an Israeli citizen who lived in the town. The military said it was conducting further searches for additional suspects.

Our Heavenly Father, we lift up the family mourning the life taken in this attack and ask that You wrap them in Your comfort and peace. We pray for the wounded, that You would heal their bodies and steady their hearts, and for the communities shaken by this violence, that they would know Your protection and not live in fear. We thank You for the swift response of the security forces and ask that You grant them wisdom and safety. In Yeshua’s Name we pray that terror would find no foothold in the land.
