Israeli intelligence officials uncovered a planned Iranian assassination plot against Yair Netanyahu, the son of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, with a US official confirming that the operation was to be carried out on American soil. The plot targeted the younger Netanyahu in Florida, where he was living in Hallandale Beach, near Miami. Israeli intelligence exposed the scheme in December 2025.

A cell acting on behalf of the regime in Tehran had already arrived in the Miami area and remained in Netanyahu's vicinity, conducting extensive surveillance and monitoring of both his residence and his daily routine. Once the scale of the threat became clear, an urgent intelligence warning was relayed to the relevant US authorities. American officials then instructed Netanyahu to leave the area immediately.

The urgency of the directive was such that Netanyahu was forced to leave his personal belongings behind at the property where he was staying and return immediately to Israel. Prime Minister Netanyahu revealed on Monday, August 24, that Iran had attempted to assassinate one of his children, disclosing information that had previously been prohibited from publication.

"Dear Lord, we thank You for exposing the plot against the Prime Minister’s son and for watching over him at every step. We pray in Yeshua’s Name that You continue to protect Israel’s leaders and their families from all who seek their harm. Please grant our intelligence services wisdom and alertness so that every scheme of terror is uncovered before it can be carried out. May those who plot violence be turned from their ways or removed from their positions of power."

US President Donald Trump declared on Monday, August 24, that Iran is "completely collapsing" as a result of the sustained economic and military pressure it faces. The declaration came in a post to his Truth Social platform, where the president wrote: "IRAN IS COMPLETELY COLLAPSING!!! President DJT."

Trump’s assessment followed remarks a day earlier from US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who said on Sunday, August 23, that Washington is approaching the "endgame" in its confrontation with Iran, following what he described as the destruction of much of Tehran’s military capabilities. "President Trump has dismantled Iran’s military capabilities, destroyed nearly 100 percent of its military factories, and buried its nuclear program," Bessent wrote on social media.

The Treasury Secretary indicated that the financial phase of the campaign is only beginning, arguing that the administration has fundamentally changed the balance of pressure between Washington and Tehran. "We are now entering the endgame. At dawn begins an economic D-Day - the single greatest financial offensive ever marshaled against an adversary," he added. "The Islamic Republic has subsisted by dressing extortion as security guarantees. It has drawn strength from a calculus that regards Iranian retaliation as certain and American enforcement as negotiable. Under President Trump, that era is over."

Outgoing Mossad chief David (Dedi) Barnea called on Thursday evening, August 27, for intensifying economic, diplomatic, and operational measures against the Iranian regime until it falls. Barnea delivered the remarks during a ceremony at Jerusalem City Hall, where Mayor Moshe Lion presented him with an award of recognition on behalf of the City Council and the residents of the capital.

Addressing policy toward Tehran, Barnea stressed that the sanctions imposed on Iran are not the end of the road. "President Trump understands very well that the extremist Iranian regime must not be allowed to remain in place. The decision to impose extremely severe sanctions on Iran is a correct and welcome decision. But the sanctions are only another stage," he said. "In my assessment, there will be no alternative but to escalate the economic, diplomatic, and operational measures against this regime until it falls - and it will fall."

Barnea noted that Iranian citizens long for the regime’s downfall and that the Western world wants it as well, with the United States and Israel leading the effort. He observed that international attitudes toward the Iranian threat have shifted in recent years. "Until the ‘Lion’s Roar’ war, we felt that Iran was the State of Israel’s problem, that only we would act and make sacrifices to confront the threat. Today, it is clear to the entire world that the Iranian issue is not our problem alone."

We pray in Yeshua’s Name that You guide the incoming leadership of the Mossad and grant success to every effort to remove the threat that the Iranian regime poses to Israel and the world. Greece is redeploying a Patriot air defense battery from the island of Karpathos to Crete, as Athens strengthens protection around the strategically important Souda Bay military area. The battery, together with its personnel and associated equipment, was transferred and is expected to be positioned near the Souda military base, a move that became known on Sunday, August 23.

The redeployment comes amid heightened alert levels within Greece's Defense Ministry and armed forces, following threats by senior Iranian officials directed at US military installations in Europe. Greek authorities are evaluating potential threats to key infrastructure and military sites as tensions continue to rise between Iran, the United States, and Israel.

Allied intelligence assessments indicate that Iran retains a substantial ballistic missile arsenal, with some missiles capable of traveling more than 2,000 kilometers - a range that could put parts of southeastern Europe within reach. The Patriot system had been stationed on Karpathos since March 2026 as part of Greece's broader efforts to improve its defenses against ballistic missile threats.

What began as a quiet operational move intended to establish clear boundaries has become a direct test of wills over the future of Syrian territory near the Turkish border.

The IDF strike on the Abu al-Duhur military airfield, located only about 70 kilometers from the Turkish border, was intended to signal to both Ankara and Damascus that Israel will not allow advanced drones, air defense systems, or precision missiles to be deployed at the base. Under Turkey's plan, the systems were intended to operate under the guise of rebuilding the Syrian military - a move viewed in Israel as a direct threat to its air superiority.

Ultimately, the IDF recommended a limited strike targeting the runways rather than the weapons shipments themselves, sending a clear warning without triggering an immediate escalation. Israel's defense establishment is now weighing how to respond should Ankara attempt to redeploy advanced technological systems and weapons in Syria.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited the family of Sgt. First Class Yehuda Yekutiel Katz on Wednesday, August 26, offering his condolences following the fallen soldier’s burial, the Prime Minister’s Office announced. Netanyahu told the family that he was "deeply moved" by the return of Katz’s remains to Israel, and expressed sorrow that Katz’s parents passed away before their son was brought home.

The family spoke with the Prime Minister about Katz’s character, describing him as "a Torah scholar, a man of values, and a professional and devoted fighter." Their meeting came in the days after the soldier’s long-awaited burial, held after the IDF recovered Katz’s remains in an operation in Lebanon during the week of August 17.

Katz went missing 44 years earlier during the First Lebanon War, in the Battle of Sultan Yacoub on June 11, 1982. Two other soldiers were declared missing in the same battle, and their bodies were recovered in 2019 and in 2025. With Katz's return, all three soldiers lost in that battle have now been brought home.

When philanthropist Harold Grinspoon launched PJ Library, he took a page from Parton, who had earlier started Imagination Library, a literacy program that mails free children's books to families across the US. After hearing Parton interviewed about the program, Grinspoon - a philanthropist both in and out of the Jewish community - signed on as a sponsor of the Imagination Library in Western Massachusetts, where he lives.

"We should create a Jewish version of Imagination Library," Grinspoon said, in a 2023 recollection shared by his daughter-in-law, Winnie Sandler Grinspoon, who serves as president of the Harold Grinspoon Foundation. The Jewish adaptation he envisioned became PJ Library, which continues Parton’s legacy of placing books in children’s hands while passing on the stories and traditions of Jewish life.

The wreck of the ship Altalena has been located intact on the Mediterranean seabed, 78 years after its sinking, National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and the Heritage Ministry announced on Monday, August 24. The Heritage Ministry said the ship was found at a depth of 503 meters, some 20 kilometers off Israel's coast.

The discovery revives one of the most contentious episodes in Israel's early history, when the newly established IDF and the Irgun came close to wider internecine fighting only weeks after independence. The Altalena arrived off the Israeli coast in June 1948, carrying hundreds of immigrants to the new Jewish state, as well as Irgun fighters and a large shipment of weapons and ammunition intended for use in the War of Independence.

The Irgun, also known as Etzel, was a pre-state Jewish underground organization led by Menachem Begin that had fought British rule and Arab forces before Israel's establishment as a modern state. The location of the vessel, preserved deep beneath the Mediterranean for nearly eight decades, now brings one of the founding chapters of the nation's story back into view.
