Beverly Hills Schools To Display Israeli Flags Each May To Combat Antisemitism
The Beverly Hills Unified School District approved a resolution on Tuesday, August 27, 2025, requiring Israeli flags to be displayed at every campus and district facility throughout May each year.
The measure—passed 3–2—also recognizes May as Jewish Heritage Month, adopts the IHRA working definition of antisemitism, and designates October 7 as an annual day of remembrance. District leaders clarified the flags will be displayed on campus but not flown on official flagpoles alongside U.S. and California flags.
Supporters said the policy affirms Jewish students and counters a surge in antisemitic incidents. Dissenting board members cited security concerns and questioned whether a foreign national flag belongs in school resolutions, while district officials emphasized accompanying educational programming and commemorations.
