Thousands Block Roads In Nationwide Day Of Protests For Hostages

Beginning at 6:29 a.m. on Tuesday, August 26, 2025—the time Hamas launched its October 7, 2023 assault—waves of demonstrations rolled across Israel calling for a comprehensive deal to free the roughly 50 hostages still held in Gaza.

Protesters unfurled Israeli flags outside the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv and moved to block key arteries including the Ayalon Highway, Route 1 between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, and Route 2 along the coast. Police later reopened thoroughfares and reiterated that freedom of protest does not include endangering public safety or paralyzing movement.

Relatives of the captives rallied at Tel Aviv’s Hostages Square, accusing the government of yielding to politics instead of prioritizing a deal. Organizers urged nationwide turnout, arguing that sustained public pressure is essential to secure a binding agreement and end the war.
