Today is Yom Hazikaron (Remembrance Day) in Israel. As our nation solemnly observes this day we pay tribute to the sacrifices of the soldiers who gave their lives to defend Israel, as well as victims of hostilities, and mourn alongside those who lost loved ones in the pursuit of peace and security. Following this somber reflection, we transition to the jubilation of Yom Ha'atzma'ut, Israel's 76th Independence Day, celebrating the remarkable journey of a nation born out of struggle and resilience. Following several heavy barrages from Lebanon on Friday afternoon, May 10, fires erupted in Northern Israel, according to Israeli media. 

The fire broke out mainly in the wooded area and in the dry vegetation on a high ridge. Due to the heat and dryness that prevailed on Friday, the fire ignited quickly and spread. Extinguishing the fire during these hours is particularly difficult due to the mountainous terrain’s darkness and route. 

Two weeks ago, media had reported on the concern raised by the standby unit in Kibbutz Yaraon about the expected fires and the difficulty of dealing with them because the firefighters do not have permission to reach the fence’s settlements. 

The Kiryat Shmona municipality spokeswoman updated on Saturday evening that five alarms were activated in the city before Shabbat after dozens of rockets were fired at the city. “At this stage, we know of several hits in the city. Much damage was caused to property and infrastructure, as well as vehicles. No injuries have been reported.” 

In response to the damage, the IDF struck Hezbollah targets in Southern Lebanon. Fighter jets destroyed five military buildings alongside another military position used by Hezbollah, from which launches were made to the north of the country. (JPost / VFI News)

The United Nations General Assembly on Friday, May 10, overwhelmingly backed a Palestinian bid to become a full UN member by recognizing it as qualified to join and recommending the UN Security Council “reconsider the matter favorably.” 

The vote by the 193-member General Assembly was a global survey of support for the Palestinian bid to become a full UN member — a move that would effectively recognize a Palestinian state — after the United States vetoed it in the UN Security Council last month. 

The assembly adopted a resolution with 143 votes in favor and nine against — including the US and Israel — while 25 countries abstained. It does not give the Palestinians full UN membership but simply recognizes them as qualified to join. 

The General Assembly resolution “determines that the State of Palestine … should therefore be admitted to membership” and it “recommends that the Security Council reconsider the matter favorably.” Foreign Minister Israel Katz labeled the decision a “prize for Hamas,” in a statement released by his office. The United Nations seemingly halved the estimated number of women and children killed in Gaza, according to UN data published on May 6 and 8. The UN published the number of fatalities reported by the Hamas-run Gaza Ministry of Health. 

The Government Media Office in Gaza and Israeli authorities provided a disclaimer below the data: “The UN has so far not been able to produce independent, comprehensive, and verified casualty figures.” 

On May 6, the UN published data showing that 34,735 people had reportedly been killed in Gaza, including over 9,500 women and over 14,500 children. On May 8, the UN published data showing 34,844 people had reportedly been killed, including 4,959 women and 7,797 children. 

The new figures showed the number of identified deaths as of April 30, which total 24,686 people. The new data also specified that 10,006 men and 1,924 elderly had been killed. The UN also highlighted that the plurality of identified fatalities were 40% men, while children were 32% and women were 20%. 

This comes after months of accusations from leading statisticians that the numbers produced by the Gazan authorities cannot possibly be accurate. The Washington Institute for Near East Policy released a report in January that showed major discrepancies in the fatality reports. The research concluded that such discrepancies were most likely caused by manipulation. 

Professor Abraham has also said Wyner said that the rate of deaths was unnatural and climbed far too regularly. He concluded that in war, the pattern of deaths should be irregular as the intensity of war is irregular. The UN reported that the number of deaths climbed by 15%, which is statistically impossible. We pray for all the families who have lost loved ones during the war and we ask that You comfort them and that You will continue to help the needy so that they can survive with dignity and stay protected until the war ends. We are deeply saddened by the immense loss of human lives and we pray for the well-being of all the families that are suffering to this day.”

A group of 26 House Democrats on Friday, May 10, wrote to US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, expressing their deep concern about the arms shipment to Israel that was recently withheld. 

The letter was spearheaded by US Representatives Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) and Jared Golden (ME-2): “We are deeply concerned about the message the Administration is sending to Hamas and other Iranian-backed terrorist proxies by withholding weapons shipments to Israel, during a critical moment in the negotiations.”

“Seven months after October 7, the deadliest day for the Jewish people since the end of the Holocaust, Iranian-backed terrorist proxies continue to fire rockets and mortars into Israel and at Americans from all directions. At the same time, antisemitism is spreading globally like wildfire,” the lawmakers wrote.

“We fear that public disputes with our critical ally only emboldens our mutual enemies, including Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis, and other Iranian-backed proxies. It also buttresses their agenda of chaos, brutality, and hate, and makes a hostage agreement even harder to achieve. Hamas still holds more than 130 hostages, including eight Americans, five of whom may still be alive,” they added. 

The lawmakers stressed, “With democracy under assault around the world, we cannot undermine our ally Israel, especially in her greatest hour of need. America’s commitments must always be ironclad. We have a duty to continue to equip Israel with the resources she needs to defend herself and crush the terrorists who also seek to do America harm, free the hostages including the Americans, continue delivering critical humanitarian aid to innocent civilians in Gaza, and to stand by our democratic allies around the world.”

Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar is not hiding in Rafah, two officials familiar with the matter told Israeli media on Friday, May 10, as the IDF moves to expand its operations in Gaza’s southernmost city. 

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has elevated a potential IDF operation in Rafah to the top of his public agenda, with the targeting of Hamas’s leadership believed to still be a major Israeli war aim as well. 

The IDF has had some success on this front, killing Hamas military wing deputy commander Marwan Issa — considered the terror group’s No. 3 leader in Gaza — along with other senior commanders in recent months. 

But Sinwar and his deputy — military wing chief Mohammed Deif — have remained elusive, despite repeated claims by Israeli officials that the IDF was closing in on them. 

The two officials were unable to say with certainty where Sinwar is currently located, but they cited recent intelligence assessments that placed the Hamas leader in underground tunnels in the Khan Younis area, some five miles north of Rafah. A third official — an Israeli one — asserted that Sinwar is still in Gaza. (TOI / VFI News)

Jewish elementary school children in upstate New York were told that their parents were “complicit in genocide” and “baby killers” by protestors who also blocked the road last week, according to a report made by renowned American media. 

Bryce Gruber, a mother of children at the Woodstock Elementary School, told the news outlet, “They were screaming at the kids and anyone who tried to get across or got near them.” 

Gruber, a mother of five, shared on social media that she struggled to explain to her children why the protestors were shouting such things at them. She also revealed that, as a result of the protests, the children were unable to go outside for recess. While Gruber expressed disbelief that a protest occurred in her small town of 6000 people, she was most concerned that her neighbors came out in support of it. 

“They were cheering them on, shouting, ‘We love you,’” Gruber told the news outlet. “That was the worst part.” Gruber confronted the protesters, including a man who had been recording her and her 7-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter. She alleges that he threatened to upload their images onto a “Zionist Jew watchlist.” 

The demonstrators called “Hudson Valley Neighbors,” had formed a human chain and blocked Route 375 to the Ametek  Rotron building - a manufacturing plant - believing the company to be involved in producing parts of weapons for Israel. The protesters held a banner saying, “Ametek Rotron Manufactures Genocide.” (JPost / VFI News)

“Our Heavenly Father, we pray for Your intervention so that all of our children can be safe and protected from people who wish to harm them or indoctrinate them into hatred. We ask that all of our people, regardless of their country of residence, will be shielded from antisemitism and will be able to raise their children in a loving environment, surrounded by people who want the best for them and their families. May Your Love shine through our people and lead to shame and repentance for the ones who protest against our very existence.”

Antisemitism within middle and high schools is on the rise by “marxist” educators - and it’s getting so bad Congress is now stepping in. The spread of anti-Jewish sentiment is being perpetrated as pro-Palestinian demonstrations take over college campuses nationwide. And it’s not just spreading on college campuses, children as young as kindergarten are also being “brainwashed.” 

“Hatred and attacking young kids like this so that they grow up to really hate people, It’s just not who we are,” Rep. Burgess Owens, R-Utah, exclusively told British media. “We’re dealing with something right now which is anti-American culture,” he added. “This is called the slow march of Marxism through institutions.” 

He claimed that there have been instances where schools have indoctrinated and brainwashed pupils with partisan views on the Israel-Hamas war. “These Marxist professors teach our college kids to hate,” he said. 

On Tuesday, May 7, the U.S. Department of Education opened an investigation into antisemitism in the Berkeley Unified School District (BUSD) which serves K-12 students. During Wednesday’s hearing administrators from the BUSD, New York City Schools and Montgomery County School all testified about instances of hate in their districts. 

The leaders vowed to make changes to address antisemitism. “Let me be clear, we do not shy away from imposing consequences for hateful behavior, including antisemitism,” Public Schools Board President Karla Silvestre testified. (DM / VFI News)

Google is coming in for sharp criticism after a video went viral of the Google Nest assistant refusing to answer basic questions about the Holocaust — but having no problem answering questions about the Nakba. 

“Hey Google, how many Jews were killed by the Nazis?” Instagram user Michael Apfel asks a Google Nest virtual assistant. The video was later posted to the platform X as well. 

“Sorry, I don’t understand,” The same token answer was offered to other related questions including “How many Jews were killed during World War II?” “Who did Adolf Hitler try to kill?” “How many Jews were killed in the concentration camps?” “How many Jews were killed in the Holocaust?” “What was the Holocaust?” 

However, the Google device was able to deliver a detailed description of “The Nakba” — an Arabic word meaning “catastrophe” used to describe Palestinians being forced from their homes during the creation of Israel. Google’s AI called it the “ethnic cleaning of Palestinians.” 

Tim Urban, a notable author and blogger told American media he was able to successfully recreate the experiment and that Google Nest had no issue clearly stating how many Germans, Americans and Japanese had died during World War II — or deaths from the Rwandan genocide. 

“Google is where we go to answer our questions and you just really want to feel like you can trust those answers and the company behind them. And moments like these break that trust and make you feel like Google’s supposed core value—truth—has been co-opted by politics,” Urban stated. (NYP / VFI News)
