Thousands Across Israel Protest Against Government, Demand Return of Ran Gvili’s Body
On Saturday, January 24, thousands rallied nationwide against the government and for the return of the remains of Master Sgt. Ran Gvili, the final hostage whose body is still in Gaza. Demonstrations in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and other cities reflected a mix of grievances—from judicial concerns to public safety—while speakers focused attention on finishing agreements that would bring Gvili home.
At a rally in Meitar, Ran Gvili’s hometown, family members and former hostages urged that no further steps be taken in Gaza arrangements until his body is returned. Organizers called for continued public pressure in the coming days. Minor scuffles and detentions were reported as police managed traffic disruptions around protest sites.
Protest leaders pledged sustained weekly actions until there is closure for the family. They appealed for unity across political lines and asked the public to maintain focus on the humanitarian imperative of returning the fallen.
