Israel Begins Draft Process for 54,000 Haredi Men
The IDF is beginning to issue enlistment summons to 54,000 Haredi men whose yeshiva student exemptions have expired. The enlistment will be phased throughout July and the 2025 draft year. The move follows the expiration of a law allowing blanket exemptions for Haredi yeshiva students.
The IDF emphasized a focus on recruiting individuals suited for combat and frontline support roles. Increased enforcement against draft evaders and deserters is also underway. The military pledged to respect Haredi lifestyles while integrating them into service.
The announcement comes amid a national debate. Former PM Naftali Bennett denounced new legislation to reintroduce exemptions as unfair to reservists and called for unity and equity in the ranks. (INN/VFI News)
“Lord, we ask that all who are called to serve in the army will do so with honor and that Your guidance would be with the IDF leadership. May there be unity, respect, and shared purpose among all communities in Israel as they defend the nation.”
