Florida Building Collapse: IDF Delegation Uses Advanced Technology to Locate Bodies

According to the IDF Spokesman, The Home Front Command and Foreign Ministry delegation in Miami have been joined in the past day by members of another delegation, including rescuers, engineers, and aid workers, to strengthen and assist the existing delegation.

An operational team of Unit 9900 in the Intelligence Division built a three-dimensional model that maps the building that collapsed, thus streamlining the process of locating the bodies in the building.

The delegation is working on two main efforts: The rescue and engineering effort and the effort by Home Front Command officers to assist the families of the missing.

At the same time, the staff of the Israeli Consulate, headed by the Consul General, is working with the local authorities, families, and heads of the Jewish community, and is examining other ways in which help can be provided, such as emotional support for the families and the community. There have been eight times as many domestic violence complaints during the coronavirus era, State Comptroller Matanyahu Englman said on Wednesday in a report about local municipal authorities.

The complaints were based on serious concerns, with 13 women being killed by their partners in 2020, an increase of 160% from 2019.

The report also said there had been a 26% increase in requests for help from domestic violence victims to social and victims’ welfare centers and shelters. (JPost / VFI News)

Bennett, Gantz Agree on Evyatar Outpost Deal, Settlers to Evacuate

Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and Defense Minister Benny Gantz agreed early Thursday to advance the legalization of the Judea and Samaria outpost of Evyatar as part of a compromise agreement by which the hundreds of settlers and right-wing activists at the site would agree to voluntarily evacuate.

The compromise deal was announced early Wednesday by the Nahala movement and the Samaria Regional Council, which spearheaded the outpost’s construction last month, in the aftermath of the Tapuah junction terrorist attack, which claimed the life of 19-year-old Yehuda Guetta

The scope and the speed of the settlers’ ability to receive a nod of approval for a new settler community on a Judea and Samaria hilltop is unusual and represents a victory for the grassroots movement. (JPost / VFI News)

Bennett Talks to Egypt’s Sissi for 1st Time As PM; Arranges Meeting

Prime Minister Naftali Bennett spoke on Monday with Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi in what was the first call between the two leaders since the new Israeli government was installed earlier this month, the Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement.

Sissi congratulated Bennett on entering office, a move that ousted long-serving former prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu who was, until the June 13 confirmation of the new government, the only serving Israeli prime minister that Sissi ever dealt with as president.

Sissi and Bennett agreed to set up a meeting as soon as possible.

During the call the two leaders discussed a broad range of bilateral, regional, and international issues, the statement said. The two praised the peace agreement between the two countries as “a foundation stone for stability in the Middle East for more than 40 years,” the PMO said.

“God, we ask that you advance the cause of peace between Israel and the rest of the region.”

Bahrain Appoints First-Ever Ambassador to Israel

Bahrain on Tuesday officially appointed Khaled Yousef al-Jalahmah as the Gulf state's first-ever ambassador to Israel.

Bahraini monarch Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa formalized the appointment, some three months after King Hamad issued royal decrees establishing his country’s diplomatic mission to Israel and naming al-Jalahma to head it up.

Al-Jalahmah serves as director of operations at Bahrain’s Foreign Ministry and was previously deputy chief of mission at Bahrain’s embassy to the United States from 2009 to 2013.

Bahrain is one of several Arab countries that agreed to normalize relations with Israel as part of the Abraham Accords that were initiated by the Trump administration in the US. Bahrain Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa recently congratulated Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and Alternate Prime Minister Yair Lapid, a day after the new Israeli government was sworn in. UN Official Calls for Human Rights Investigation into Iran President-Elect Raisi

The United Nations official tasked with investigating human rights in Iran is backing an independent probe into the role of Tehran’s new president-elect, Ebrahim Raisi, in mass state-ordered executions in 1988 when he was Tehran’s deputy prosecutor.

“I think it is time and it’s very important now that Mr. Raisi is the president [-elect] that we start investigating what happened in 1988 and the role of individuals,” Javaid Rehman, the third special rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran, told Reuters. “Otherwise we will have very serious concerns about this president and the role, the reported role, he has played historically in those executions.”

“We have made communications to the Islamic Republic of Iran because we have concerns that there is again a policy to actually destroy the graves, or there may be some activity to destroy evidence of mass graves,” Rehman said. “I will campaign for justice to be done.” (TOI / VFI News)

Israeli Weapons Maker Unveils New State-of-the-Art Anti-Ship Missile

Israel’s Rafael defense contractor this week unveiled a powerful new naval missile system known as the Sea Breaker that it says can knock out a full-sized warship from hundreds of kilometers away in one shot.

The fifth-generation missile is principally geared for use against targets at sea or near the shore, but can also navigate over land, according to Rafael. At this stage, the Sea Breaker is primarily being marketed to customers abroad, the weapons manufacturer said.

Rafael announced the creation of this new long-range missile on Wednesday, saying that it combined state-of-the-art capabilities with existing technologies, making it one of the most powerful weapons of its kind. (TOI / VFI News)

Major Breakthrough: Treating Cancer Without Harming Healthy Cells

A major problem in cancer treatments is that many of them destroy the malignant cells but also harm healthy cells nearby.

Tel Aviv University (TAU) researchers have developed a groundbreaking technology in which – for the first time in the world – they have made possible the targeted delivery of therapeutic RNAs only to cancer cells, with no harm caused to healthy ones.

Ribonucleic acid (RNA) is an important biological macromolecule that is present in all biological cells and is involved mainly in the production of proteins, carrying the messenger instructions from DNA – which itself contains the genetic instructions required for the development and maintenance of life.
