In the early hours of Friday, June 13, the IDF’s Intelligence Directorate located a senior command meeting of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Air Force within an underground command center identified a prime opportunity to dismantle Iran’s aerial strike capabilities. Israeli Air Force fighter jets promptly struck the command center, killing Amir Ali Hajizadeh—the Commander of the IRGC Air Force—along with two other senior IRGC Air Force officials: Taher-pour, Commander of UAV Forces, and Davoud Shaykhian, Commander of Aerial Command.

According to the IDF, these senior figures were instrumental in orchestrating missile and UAV attacks against Israeli civilians during October 2024, and directly responsible for the April 2024 missile strike on Israel. They also coordinated the September 2019 attack on Saudi oil facilities. The IDF emphasized that removing these key leaders will significantly degrade Iran’s aerial strike and drone threat.

“The IRGC’s Air Force is responsible for repeated attacks against Israeli civilians,” an IDF spokesperson stated. Hajizadeh had publicly vowed Israel’s destruction multiple times and played a central role in crafting Iran’s strategic assault plans against the Jewish state. This strike, Israel National News reports, was part of “Operation Rising Lion”—the combined opening stage of a broader campaign targeting Iran’s military infrastructure.

In the wake of the strike, Israeli airspace has been closed, and Ben Gurion Airport evacuated as a precaution. Magen David Adom (MDA) has been placed on the highest alert across the country as the nation braces for potential Iranian retaliation. The IDF said it struck a major Hamas rocket manufacturing and storage site in the courtyard of a UNRWA school complex in central Gaza, where the terror group had built infrastructure embedded among civilians. The IDF said it used precise intelligence to identify Hamas activity centered at an UNRWA-run school in Nuseirat, and worked to evacuate civilians before the attack. The operation, carried out overnight Wednesday, June 12, targeted multiple Hamas operatives and facilities.

Israeli military officials stated that terrorists from Hamas and Islamic Jihad were killed in the strikes, and at least one senior Hamas rocket expert was among the dead. Video and photos released by the IDF showed what appeared to be weapons, rocket production parts, and infrastructure hidden inside and beneath the school facility. According to the army, UNRWA was warned in advance that its school premises had been co-opted for terror operations.

The IDF emphasized that the operation was conducted to minimize harm to civilians, even as terror operatives had deeply embedded themselves in populated areas. “Hamas continues to systematically use the civilian population in the Gaza Strip as human shields,” the military said in a statement. “We will continue operating to remove such threats to Israel’s security.”

The military added that this strike formed part of the broader campaign to dismantle Hamas’ terror infrastructure throughout Gaza, including rocket capabilities that pose ongoing threats to Israeli communities. The IDF has carried out several operations in the Nuseirat area in recent weeks, targeting tunnel networks and command posts beneath civilian areas.

The Gaza Health Ministry claimed civilians were killed in the strike, though the IDF said it had confirmed the presence of militants and worked to reduce collateral damage. UNRWA did not respond to Israeli claims that the school complex was being used for terror purposes, but the organization has faced growing scrutiny over repeated incidents where Hamas infrastructure was found in or near its facilities. The IDF plans to issue 54,000 draft orders next month to eligible haredi men, in addition to the 24,000 already summoned since July 2024. Brigadier-General Shai Tayeb announced that reporting dates will be staggered from July 2025 through June 2026.

This expansion follows a 2024 High Court ruling requiring ultra-Orthodox enlistment like all other Israeli citizens. The IDF also intends to increase enforcement, including arrests at airports and through mobile units, in cooperation with military and civilian police.

The military acknowledges it may not meet its goal of drafting 4,800 haredim in the 2025–2026 cycle but plans to streamline awareness and enforcement mechanisms to improve compliance.

At least five individuals from the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), including local Palestinian collaborators, were killed in a Hamas attack while en route to Khan Yunis. The foundation also reported that team members might have been taken hostage.

This attack follows direct threats issued by Hamas to aid workers cooperating with Israel. In messages sent earlier in the week, Hamas warned of "severe consequences" for those working under what it calls "suspicious humanitarian projects."

An Israeli tourist was attacked in Greece by a group of pro-Palestinian activists after they overheard him using Google Maps in Hebrew while navigating Athens.

Meidad Hozeh, 35, recounted his experience: "I went to a gym in Athens, and on the way, my phone was speaking Hebrew. I was using Google Maps. People passed by, and one of them asked me if I was from Israel. I told him yes, and at that moment, he began cursing at me and went into a frenzy."

As Hozeh continued on his way, a mob began following him. "They kept cursing and hitting me. I started taking pictures, ran into the street, and tried to get away. Even there, they chased me. I had to defend myself. I ended up hiding in a restaurant bathroom. They tried to break down the door, and one even suggested bringing an axe."

Eventually, the police arrived. However, instead of helping, they initially handcuffed Hozeh. "When the police got there, the restaurant was surrounded by Palestinian protesters. It was chaos. The police took me out in handcuffs, saying I was the aggressor. Only after reviewing video evidence did they realize I was the victim."

Hozeh said he sought medical treatment and is scheduled to return to the police to help identify his attackers. "No one helped me—not even in the restaurant. Not a single person intervened," he said. (TOI/VFI News)
