The FBI is reallocating resources from countering violent crimes and illegal immigration to counterterrorism cases due to expected blowback from the war against Iran, bureau director Kash Patel said Monday, June 23, 2025.

“Not to take away from the other priorities of the administration—getting rid of criminals in our communities, illegals in our communities—but right now, the focus, given the nature of what just happened, has to be on protecting the homeland,” Patel said at the National Sheriffs’ Association conference in Florida.

CBS News reported that a memo was distributed to FBI field office directors, instructing them to focus on domestic and international terror threats. A separate memo from U.S. Customs and Border Protection stated that the threat of sleeper cells has "never been higher," although specific intelligence is lacking.

This marks a pivot from Patel’s previous focus on violent crime and illegal immigration. Sources within the FBI alleged they were previously pressured to maximize immigration arrests.

The renewed counterterrorism focus may lead to increased use of controversial undercover operations. Investigative journalist Trevor Aaronson, in The Terror Factory, documented that nearly half of post-9/11 terror cases involving Muslims were initiated by FBI informants.

President Donald Trump warned Wednesday, June 25, 2025, that the U.S. would strike Iran again if it attempts to rebuild its nuclear facilities, following the recent successful attack on three key sites.

Speaking at a NATO summit in the Netherlands, Trump responded with a firm "Sure" when asked whether he would approve future strikes if Iran reconstitutes its nuclear program.

NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte praised Trump’s decisive action, calling him a "man of strength" and noting the ceasefire between Israel and Iran as a diplomatic achievement. Rutte also commended Trump for persuading NATO members to increase defense spending.

Amid Israel’s massive reconstruction effort following Iranian missile strikes, the Jewish community in Foshan, China, has offered to assist. Rabbi Gadi Luzon extended help through the city’s robust construction sector, contacting Israel's Renovation Contractors Union.

Luzon highlighted Foshan’s global prominence in manufacturing building materials, offering resources ranging from aluminum and glass to sanitary equipment and labor. With a labor shortage in Israel, Foshan firms are prepared to send trained professionals and manage crews on-site.

On Wednesday, June 25, 2025, Iran's parliament voted to suspend cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), chanting "Death to America! Death to Israel!" after approving a bill that limits nuclear site inspections.

The law, pending final approval by Iran's Supreme National Security Council, halts camera surveillance, inspections, and reporting to the IAEA. Lawmakers claim the agency abetted Israeli and U.S. attacks on Iranian nuclear sites.

As a fragile ceasefire takes hold, the scope of the Israel-Iran conflict over the last 12 days reveals staggering human and material costs. Twenty-eight Israeli civilians have been killed and more than 3,000 wounded.

Iran launched 550 ballistic missiles and 1,000 drones at Israel. Most were intercepted, but 31 missiles hit populated areas or infrastructure. Beersheba, among other cities, sustained extensive damage.

Israel’s counterstrikes decimated two-thirds of Iran's missile launchers, hundreds of drones, and over 80 air defense batteries. Airstrikes also targeted nuclear sites at Natanz and Isfahan, setting Iran’s nuclear program back years, according to IDF estimates.

At a June 22, 2025 emergency UN Security Council meeting, Israeli Ambassador Danny Danon hailed the US's recent strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities as necessary and righteous, accusing critics of prior silence while Iran escalated its nuclear ambitions.

Danon declared, "Where were you when Iran raced toward the bomb?" and accused nations of complicity through inaction. In contrast, Iranian envoy Amir Iravani condemned the attacks as "barbaric" and said Tehran reserved the right to retaliate.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and IAEA Director Rafael Grossi voiced concerns about escalation and potential radiation risks. Grossi emphasized that armed attacks on nuclear sites must be avoided.

NATO Chief Rutte added that the US strikes did not violate international law. Nonetheless, the UN cited potential violations of humanitarian principles, pointing to civilian casualties in Tehran and Kermanshah.

U.S. Middle East Envoy Steve Witkoff stated in a June 24 CNBC interview that Iran’s nuclear enrichment and weaponization remain clear red lines for Washington. He emphasized hopes for a new agreement that ensures only non-enrichable civilian energy for Iran.

Witkoff said, "We can’t have weaponization. That will destabilize the entire region. Everyone will then need a bomb."
