Germany and NATO Defend Israel and US Strikes, Despite UN Report
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte publicly defended Israeli and U.S. strikes on Iran, even as a UN fact-finding mission raised humanitarian concerns.
Merz stated, "There is no reason for us to criticize what Israel started a week ago, nor what America did." He acknowledged the risks but affirmed that inaction was not a viable choice.
NATO Chief Rutte added that the US strikes did not violate international law. Nonetheless, the UN cited potential violations of humanitarian principles, pointing to civilian casualties in Tehran and Kermanshah.
These conflicting views highlight the tension between strategic necessity and humanitarian oversight in modern warfare. (JPost/VFI News)
