Israel Defends US Strikes on Iran at UN, Slams Critics for Silence
At a June 22, 2025 emergency UN Security Council meeting, Israeli Ambassador Danny Danon hailed the US's recent strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities as necessary and righteous, accusing critics of prior silence while Iran escalated its nuclear ambitions.
Danon declared, "Where were you when Iran raced toward the bomb?" and accused nations of complicity through inaction. In contrast, Iranian envoy Amir Iravani condemned the attacks as "barbaric" and said Tehran reserved the right to retaliate.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and IAEA Director Rafael Grossi voiced concerns about escalation and potential radiation risks. Grossi emphasized that armed attacks on nuclear sites must be avoided.
The debate reflects growing polarization among global powers over how to address Iran’s nuclear threat and Israel’s security concerns. (TOI/VFI News)
