German Court Calls ‘No Jews Allowed’ Sign Incitement, Then Spares Shop Owner Jail

A court in Germany sentenced a 60-year-old man from Flensburg to a six-month suspended prison term after he hung an antisemitic sign on a store he owns reading, “Jews are not allowed to enter this place!!!” The court also ordered him to pay 1,200 euros, about 1,370 dollars, to the Ladelund concentration camp memorial. The judge found that the man prominently displayed the notice in his secondhand store for roughly four hours on September 17, 2025.

The judge ruled that by displaying the sign the man incited hatred against Jews living in Germany and violated their human dignity, stressing that he was fully aware of the meaning and implications of his words. The sign was deliberately intended to evoke memories of the Nazi boycott slogans directed against Jewish businesses, the judge said, adding that the case did not involve a spontaneous remark or protected opinion but rather incitement to hatred. The defendant admitted hanging the sign and, through his attorney, expressed remorse and pledged to refrain from similar conduct.

During police questioning, however, he said he had decided to post the sign because, in his view, the Jews he knew had not opposed the war in Gaza, later conceding he should have distinguished between Jews holding differing views. The case drew widespread attention well beyond Germany and was covered by outlets around the world. The suspended sentence, paired with the court’s own finding that the act amounted to incitement evoking Nazi-era boycotts, drew sharp notice for the gap between the gravity of the offense and the leniency of the punishment.

Heavenly Father, we grieve to see the antisemetic sign reappear on a shop window in Germany, echoing the darkest chapters of the last century. We ask You to protect Jewish communities across the diaspora, to comfort those who are wounded by such contempt, and to raise up courts and leaders who will name evil for what it is and answer it with true justice. Turn the hearts of those consumed by hatred to repentance, and let the memory of the past guard the conscience of the present. In Yeshua’s Name we pray.
